Skull Shaker Card

I love a good shaker card, but what I love even MORE is an EASY shaker card and this one delivers on both!

To make this EASY shaker card you will need one of our clear envelopes found in the Annual Catalogue. They are self sealing but I do add some tape to the back as you will need to fold over the edges a bit. The clear envelope is designed to fit a regular card so you can see how it is folded a bit smaller. Some tape on the back works perfectly when you get to that step!

The base of this card is Highland Heather and has Basic Black layer that is 4 x 5 1/4.

The ‘shaker’ layer is Grey Granite. I stamped the skull faces from the Cute Halloween set along with some little spiders.

The stamp set has two different faces that you can stamp for the skull as well. I stamped them randomly in the background in the matching ink color along with some spiders. Once you have this piece stamped you are going to slip it into the clear envelope. Set it aside for now as you will need to make your filler!

You can really use whatever you like for a shaker card. For this one here I used some skulls that were stamped on Basic White and hand trimmed. I stamped a few Candy Corn as well (from the Cute Halloween Set) and added some Subtle Shimmer Sequins. Once you have added all of this to the clear envelope you will want to seal it up. Make sure you leave a little air so that things can shake around. If its too tight of a seal things won’t really move around freely.

Every card needs a sentiment so I added ‘Hey, Boo!’ from the Cute Halloween set. I stamped a few Candy Corns in Pumpkin Pie ink on the same color of card stock and then used the Layering Circle Dies to cut it out along with a scallop circle in Highland Heather.

I layered a bit of the Black & White Gingham in between the layers too—since its such a fun ribbon! See wasn’t this easy to create? I really love this simple style of shaker cards!

EEK! Happy Halloween!

Following up on my post from Wednesday, here is another look at that amazing technique with our Stampin’ Blends and Isopropyl alcohol!

For this card I started with a base of Basic White. I used the same technique, coloring a squiggle with my Basic Black Stampin’ Blend marker in the bottom right corner of the vellum. Remember, you need vellum for this cool technique to work.

I added a few light droplets of the Isopropyl alcohol to this area and let it work its magic!

I cut a glittery star wreath using the Seasonal Swirls Dies and added to my Stampin’ Blend area with a few Glue Dots. I cut out EEK from Rich Razzleberry card stock using the Playful Alphabet Dies and the Foam Adhesive Sheets.

Happy Halloween can be found in the Frightfully Cute stamp set and is stamped with Momento Black Ink on Pumpkin Pie card stock.

A few Matte Black Dots and this fun Halloween card is complete!

It's all about the Boo's...

Did you see my earlier post post about the alcohol blending technique? I shared a fun way to use three different colors to create a fun background. For this option using the Stampin’ Blends and Isopropyl Alcohol I am just using one color to help create a fun focal point.

To create this look you will need a Basic Black Stampin’ Blend marker (or one singular color of your choice) plus vellum (which is the key paper for this technique).

I started by coloring a section about 2 - 2 1/2 inches wide on the bottom right corner of the vellum with my Basic Black Stampin’ Blend. I then used an old Aqua Painter with some rubbing alcohol to drop little dots on top of where I colored. It ends up creating a really cool unique.

I used the Seasonal Swirls Dies to cut out a sparkly star wreath to layer over top of my Basic Black alcohol area. I cut out “BOO” from Paper Pumpkin card stock using the Playful Alphabet Dies. The letters are cut out a second time using the Foam Adhesive Sheets. It is such an easy way to pop the whole letter up on your project. The Granny Apple Green pumpkin is also from the Seasonal Swirls Dies. I added a few extra stars to my project using the Cute Stars Adhesive Backed Sequins!

Once I had this vellum panel complete I layered it over top of some DSP from the Cute Halloween collection. I love how the vellum softens the DSP and how spooktacular the alcohol technique looks on top of the DSP too. The base of the card is Basic Black.

I hope this card also inspires you to play around with this alcohol Stampin’ Blends technique. Its so fun and you can create some really terrific backgrounds that are all unique!

Hey Boo!

Ya YOU! Hey BOO! Ok, I will stop it! But what I won’t stop is sharing some fun Halloween inspiration with you this month! This is my third project share and today I am sharing a really spooktacular Halloween card with you that uses a really cool technique!

The base of this card is Fresh Freesia which is a color you might not think of when you think of Halloween. I think all the purples work for this holiday so I incorporated three of them onto this card project.

There is a base layer of Basic White behind the vellum layer to help the colors of the Stampin’ Blends pop. I used the dark Stampin’ Blend marker for all three—Highland Heather, Rich Razzleberry and Fresh Freesia. The technique is the popular Alcohol Blends technique. There are a million videos on how to make this so just do a quick search! Basically you need 3-5 things for this technique:

1. Stampin’ Blends

2. Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol in 99%

3. Vellum

4. A straw

5. A Waterpainter

The straw option is used to blow the rubbing alcohol around and I have created some projects with that look, so to speak, so watch for some future posts! For this card I used my Waterpainter to drop and spritz the rubbing alcohol on top of my blends.

I colored my Stampin’ Blends across my vellum, dividing it into 3 sections. I then dipped my Waterpainter into the rubbing alcohol and flicked it across the card. This is what created the speckled look.

Because you could see the lines between the colors, and I didn’t really like that, I took the Waterpainter to the edges to where the colors met and touched the vellum. This allowed the color to bleed into each other a little bit.

TOP TIP: A little rubbing alcohol goes a long way. Sometimes less is better

After I had created this fun background it was easy to add some fun aspects to the card. We have such a great selection of Halloween stuff in our catalogues right now!

“Hey Boo” is from the Cutest Halloween stamp set and the sentiment is die cut with a label shape from the Frightful Tags Dies.

I added a fun spiderweb cut from the Black Glitter Paper and the Frightful Tags dies. Over top I added our sentiment and a cute owl, cut from Bumblebee card stock, and cut with the same dies. Now when you cut the owl, his eyes and nose will be hollow, so I added a small scrap of Basic Black cardstock behind to fill them in.

The skull is stamped from the same stamp set, Cutest Halloween, and is hand trimmed. While there is a punch to coordinate with this stamp set, it only cuts out the cat, ghost and pumpkin.

I used my Stampin’ Blends again, this time in Daffodil Delight, to color the Black & White Gingham Ribbon. This ribbon is the BOMB! Its the perfect width and everyone loves gingham. And you can customize it by coloring it with Stampin’ Blends OR even with a Blending Brush and an ink pad!

Color Fusers--October Blog Hop!

Hello friends! Welcome to the most SPOOKTACULAR month of the year! Our Color Fusers Blog Hop this month is featuring the color combo of Just Jade, Evening Evergreen and Cajun Craze and it was a good challenge to create a Halloween Project—since that is the theme of my blog this month!

The project I created to share this month is a mashup of the Detailed Pumpkins Dies, the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks and the Banner Year stamp set. All of these elements came together to create a unique Halloween card!

I started with a card base of Just Jade and used one of the masks or stencils with my Just Jade ink pad and Blending Brush to create a fun tone on tone design on my card front. I also angled the mask so that it was a diagonal for something a little bit different!

I cut a thin strip of Evening Evergreen card stock and attached it following this diagonal to bring more attention to that detail. After I stamped out the sentiment, Happy Haunting (in Evening Evergreen ink) I used the same stencil over top with Just Jade ink. This is a really fun way to jazz up your sentiments and to blend these two greens together. I added some retired Cajun Craze Twine (I seriously need to quit being a hoarder) and some of the new awesome Chevron Evening Evergreen Ribbon behind the sentiment.

The two Cajun Craze pumpkins are from the Detailed Pumpkins Dies. Both of the dies, in their original form, have area that you can ‘see’ through. I wanted my big pumpkin to be more solid so I glued it to another piece of Cajun Craze card stock and then trimmed around the edges with my paper snips!

Bling makes everything better of course, so I couldn’t resist adding some In Color Jewels in Evening Evergreen for a little sparkle!
